Description
This Berry Croissant Bake is a decadent and fruity breakfast casserole featuring soft baked croissants soaked in a creamy mixture of cream cheese, eggs, and vanilla, layered with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Ingredients
Scale
Croissant and Berries
- 4 large croissants, broken into small pieces (use baked croissants, not dough)
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- ½ cup blueberries
- ½ cup raspberries
Cream Cheese Mixture
- 1 block (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray a 9 x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange Croissants and Berries: Evenly spread the broken croissant pieces in the prepared baking dish. Distribute the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries evenly over the croissants.
- Make Cream Cheese Mixture: Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until it’s fluffy and smooth. Gradually add the granulated sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Continue mixing until all ingredients are well combined into a creamy custard-like mixture.
- Combine and Refrigerate: Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the croissants and berries in the baking dish. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 14 hours. This allows the croissants to soak up the custard mixture thoroughly.
- Bake: Remove the cover and bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until the bake is golden brown on top and set in the center.
- Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with syrup. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious berry croissant bake!
Notes
- Make sure to use fully baked croissants, not raw croissant dough, for the right texture.
- You can prepare this dish the night before and refrigerate it so it’s ready to bake in the morning.
- Feel free to substitute or add other berries or fruits based on what you have available.
- For a richer flavor, use whole milk or even a mixture of milk and cream.
- Serving with a drizzle of maple syrup or a dusting of powdered sugar adds a nice sweetness.
