Ingredients
Scale
Beef Filling
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Dough and Coating
- 1 package refrigerated pizza dough
- 1 cup baking soda (for boiling)
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
- Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, then drain the excess fat.
- Season the Beef: Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the beef, stirring well to combine all the flavors.
- Add Cheese: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and well incorporated with the beef mixture.
- Prepare the Dough: Unroll the refrigerated pizza dough on a clean surface and cut it into 2 to 3-inch squares.
- Fill the Dough: Place about a tablespoon of the beef and cheese filling in the center of each dough square.
- Seal the Bombs: Fold the corners of the dough over the filling and pinch tightly to fully seal each pretzel bomb.
- Boil the Pretzel Bombs: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda. Boil each pretzel bomb for approximately 30 seconds, then remove them carefully with a slotted spoon.
- Apply Egg Wash: Place the boiled pretzel bombs on the prepared baking sheet, brush each one with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake: Bake the pretzel bombs in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pretzel bombs to cool for a few minutes after baking before serving to ensure the filling sets nicely and to avoid burns.
Notes
- Make sure to pinch the dough securely to prevent filling from leaking during boiling and baking.
- Use a slotted spoon when removing pretzel bombs from boiling water to avoid breaking them.
- Adjust seasoning in the beef mixture to taste.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauces such as mustard, ketchup, or a spicy mayo for extra flavor.
- These can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
