Ingredients
Scale
Wonton Cups
- 12 wonton wrappers
- Cooking spray, for greasing muffin tin
Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 fresh jalapenos, diced (seeds and membranes removed for milder heat)
- 1/2 cup cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup standard muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Jalapenos: Carefully dice fresh jalapenos, making sure to remove all seeds and white membranes to ensure the filling has a milder heat level.
- Make the Filling: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, diced jalapenos, and cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, and mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Form Wonton Cups: Take each wonton wrapper and gently press it into each cup of the prepared muffin tin, shaping it carefully into a small cup without tearing.
- Fill Wonton Cups: Using a small spoon or cookie scoop, spoon about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of the jalapeno popper filling into each wonton cup, making sure not to overfill.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin into the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until the wonton wrappers turn golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the muffin tin from the oven and allow the wonton cups to cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Gently lift each cup out and serve warm for best taste and texture.
Notes
- For spicier jalapeno popper cups, leave some seeds and membranes in the diced jalapenos.
- You can substitute ground beef with cooked bacon bits for a smoky flavor.
- Wonton wrappers are delicate; handle gently to avoid tearing.
- These cups can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking; just add a couple extra minutes to the baking time if starting from cold.
- Serve with a side of ranch dressing or sour cream for dipping.
