Description

This Egg and Ham Breakfast Sandwich is a hearty and delicious way to start your day. Featuring fluffy eggs cooked beneath buttered bread slices, layers of savory deli ham, and melted cheddar cheese, this sandwich combines simple ingredients into a satisfying breakfast treat. Cooked in a skillet for a golden crust and melted cheese, it’s easy to prepare and perfect for a quick homemade breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale

Egg Mixture

  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper

For Cooking

  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided

Sandwich Assembly

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese
  • 2 slices deli ham

Instructions

  1. Prepare the egg mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, kosher salt, and white pepper until well combined.
  2. Melt butter in skillet: Place a large skillet over medium heat and melt 2 tablespoons of butter completely to prepare for cooking the eggs.
  3. Butter the bread: Use the remaining tablespoon of butter to generously butter one side of each slice of bread. Set the buttered bread slices aside for assembly.
  4. Add eggs to skillet: Pour the beaten egg mixture into the skillet with the melted butter, and gently swirl the pan to spread the eggs evenly out to the edges.
  5. Place bread on eggs: Lay both slices of buttered bread, butter side facing up, onto the eggs, positioning them so the bottom edges touch.
  6. Cook the eggs and bread: Let the eggs cook undisturbed for 5 to 7 minutes until the eggs are no longer runny, allowing the bread to start toasting on top.
  7. Flip the egg and bread: Carefully flip the cooked eggs along with both slices of bread as one piece. The eggs should be firm enough to flip easily.
  8. Add cheese and ham: On one slice of the flipped bread, place the cheddar cheese slice and top with the deli ham. Fold the excess cooked egg over the ham to enclose it.
  9. Assemble sandwich: Fold the other slice of bread over the ham and egg to form a sandwich.
  10. Finish cooking: Cook the sandwich for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, flipping as needed until the cheese has melted and the sandwich is golden brown and heated through. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can use any bread of your choice, such as sourdough or whole wheat, for different flavors and textures.
  • Adjust seasoning in the eggs to taste, adding herbs like chives or parsley if desired.
  • For a lower-fat option, reduce the butter or use a non-stick spray.
  • Make sure to cook the eggs thoroughly, especially when serving to children or those sensitive to undercooked eggs.
  • This sandwich can be doubled easily for more servings, just increase ingredients accordingly.
