Scale
Sausages
- 4 bratwurst sausages
Beer & Onions
- 1 cup beer (lager or ale)
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
Cooking Fats & Seasoning
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bratwurst.
- Caramelize Onions: Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until they become soft and golden brown, creating rich, caramelized flavor.
- Prepare Bratwurst: Place the bratwurst sausages in a baking dish and pour the cup of beer over them, allowing the sausages to soak up the flavors.
- Add Caramelized Onions: Once the onions are ready, evenly spread them over the bratwurst in the baking dish.
- Braise Covered: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to gently cook the sausages in the beer and onion mixture.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes until the bratwurst are nicely browned and slightly crisp on the outside.
- Serve: Serve the bratwurst hot straight from the oven, garnished with fresh parsley if desired for added color and brightness.
Notes
- Use a lager or ale beer for best flavor balance with the bratwurst.
- For extra depth, consider adding a splash of mustard or garlic to the onions while caramelizing.
- Keep an eye on the onions to prevent burning; stir frequently.
- Use foil tightly to retain moisture while braising in the oven.
- Fresh parsley is optional but adds a fresh, bright note to the rich dish.
