Description

This comforting Tater Tot Casserole features a savory blend of ground beef, creamy mushroom sauce, and melted cheddar cheese, all topped with crispy golden tater tots. Perfect for a family-friendly meal that’s easy to prepare and bake to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/3 cup sour cream (or milk)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 24-32 ounces frozen Tater Tots (enough to fill the casserole dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook Ground Beef Mixture: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook for 6-7 minutes, stirring and crumbling the beef until it is no longer pink and the onions are translucent.
  3. Mix Sauce and Cheese: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup, sour cream (or milk), Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until fully combined.
  4. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the beef mixture to a 9×13-inch casserole dish. Evenly sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese on top. Arrange an even layer of frozen Tater Tots over the cheese.
  5. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the filling is hot and bubbly.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, substitute sour cream with plain Greek yogurt or milk.
  • Make sure to evenly spread the tater tots for uniform crispiness.
  • You can add vegetables like peas or corn to the beef mixture for added nutrition.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best crispiness.
